One of my favorite episodes of Unsolved Mysteries, case of Dale Kersetter S2 E5

September 13, 1987 Bradford, PA. Corning Glassworks security guard, Dale Kersetter was missing from his post when his replacement came in at 7am.

Also missing was about $250,000 worth of platinum pipe. Dale’s uneaten dinner, cigarettes and work keys were found as well as Dale’s car keys in the ignition of his Jeep in the parking lot.

After reviewing security tapes, it was revealed that a masked man was walking around the plant, and seemingly very familiar with it since he easily walked right to some platinum pipes and began to saw them off. Later Dale was seen on camera speaking with the man and then walking in front of him as they exited the room. The most peculiar part of this recording was that Dale looked straight into the camera as this happened. It is unknown if he was trying to signal help or flaunt that he was an accomplice.

The last recording was of the masked man pushing a cart with a black bag large enough to fit a person although the contents are unknown. Whether a victim or an accomplice to the platinum theft, Dale was never seen again.

I don’t know if it’s just me (it can’t be) but when I was little I’d love to gaze into any kind of glowing red light from when many of early 80s electronics illuminated that way; calculators, digital watches, VCR clocks etc.. this included gazing at the toaster oven making English muffin pizzas or whatever delights were made from the warm red-orange glow of the top burner.

This is also my current toaster.

I don’t usually paint people, it's not my strong point, but every once in a while I’ll feel compelled to try. This is a study of a photograph of Martha Doof, an 8 year old Dutch girl who died in Auschwitz in 1943.

There is almost nothing known about her, but I get a sense that she was pretty sharp for an 8 year old.

I was going to finish this piece but then felt, like her life, leaving it unfinished but still having potential was fitting.
